The purpose of MSAT–Malaysia is to assess your abilities in a range of cross-curricular skills.

MSAT–Malaysia measures skills acquired over a period of time, including the ability to reason, make logical deductions and form judgements.

The test does not draw on any subject knowledge. There would therefore be little benefit to be gained by ‘cramming’ or coaching. Your best preparation will be to read widely and to think critically about what you read. However, some familiarity with the question types typically presented in MSAT–Malaysia is an advantage.

Test format and preparation

Questions

The test is completed in 2 hours and 40 minutes and made up of 3 sections with each containing 36 multiple-choice questions.

Online platform demo

The purpose of the Online Platform demo is not to provide you with additional practice questions, but rather to provide everyone sitting MSAT an opportunity to familiarise themselves with the computer delivery platform which will be used in all test centres. We encourage you to try the demo out so that you understand the functionality, and know what to expect when you undertake your MSAT sitting.

The questions used in the demo are from the ‘Sample Questions 1’ publication. You can access the demo through your account by selecting "Preparation materials" next to your ACER MSAT account.

None of questions that appear in the demo will be marked and there is no limit on how many times you can access the demo.

Test taking strategy

Questions in the MSAT-Malaysia are in multiple choice format. There is no right or wrong way to work through the test, it is best for you to develop your own strategies that suit your way of working in order to complete the test in the allocated time.

Each test section is separately timed. It is recommended that you work steadily through the test. It is not advisable to spend too much time on any one question. Read through all the alternative answers to a question, even if you think the first one is correct, before marking your chosen response. If you think you know the answer to a question, mark your answer by clicking on the radio button corresponding to your chosen answer, even if you are not certain. Go on to the next question and come back later if you have time.

Remember: All questions have the same value, therefore by attempting as many questions as possible you stand the best change of maximising your score. No marks are deducted for the wrong answer.

Preparation material

The Sample questions booklets are shorter publications to the test which contain the same balance of question types found in a full test. Answers are given for all questions.

We recommend you work through each booklet multiple times. Practicing the types and style of questions is important so you know what to expect in the live test.

You will receive a sample questions booklet with your registration when you activate your ACER account. You can also purchase the MSAT–Malaysia Sample Questions 2, through your registration after you activate your account.
