The purpose of MSAT-Ulster is not to test your knowledge of specific academic subjects, it is to test your skills in the interpretation and understanding of ideas presented in a variety of ways. MSAT-Ulster questions typically require you to read and think about a passage of writing, to interpret graphical displays of information, to use mathematical relationships, to reason about data and use your ability to understand the thoughts, behaviours and/or intentions of people.
The test has a strong focus on the general skills and personal abilities identified as important in a competent health professional.
Questions in the MSAT-Ulster are in multiple-choice format.
Tips for working through questions:
Points to note:
ACER produces the only official MSAT-Ulster preparation materials. These can be purchased and accessed through the ACER account you created for your registration. All questions contained in our booklets have been used in past tests and are the best guide for test preparation.
MSAT preparation courses are not recommended, authorised by, or in any way associated with ACER. They are unregulated. All test takers need to assess for themselves whether any particular preparation course is able to supply objective and reliable evidence that participation is likely to improve your MSAT score to justify the often significant cost associated with them, and whether representations they make about themselves are accurate.
There are currently 2 publications in the form of e-books:
| Booklet | Cost | Information |
|---|---|---|
| Sample questions 1 | Free with registration | 33 questions with answers covering all 3 sections of the test |
| Sample questions 2 | £15 | 45 questions with answers covering all 3 sections of the test |
We recommend you work through the booklets multiple times. Practicing the types and style of questions is important so you know what to expect in the live test.
